I am so sorry to hear about Chip Smith. I had the fortunate opportunity to have him and Jim Schiller as medic precepters in 1997. He influenced me personally and professionally in ways that only he could. He was encouraging and incredibly patient during that time. He was a man amongst men and just a wonderful friend. Dear Firefighters--Thank you for your bravery and thank you for always watching out for the community. I am a previous Southern California resident and used to know some of the gentleman at the fire department years ago. My family still lives in the vicinity somewhat. I stumbled upon this website unexpectedly when searching for something else, and thought it would be nice to drop a quick unsolicited "thank you" for all that you do to protect the community at large. If by chance Michael Heenan is a paramedic firefighter at the Fire Department, please give him my best regards (It has been just about 20 years or so I have seen him and I do not know if he remembers me or not. He was always such a nice gentleman to me and my family and was a very dedicated firefighter and nice guy to know). I was born and raised in Ontario.
Lived there 1953-1980. OFD used to have some classic apparatus, like the VanPelts(twins),the old Mack pumper(40's), Mack Ladder Truck 1 and the Seagraves pumper from the 50's. I also remember the Rescue Car(1950's Ford panel wagon. As well, the 60's Van Pelt Pumpers and the Crowns. I'd love to get copies of any old photos of these apparatus for my scrapbook. Any way to do this?
